Google Certified Educator Course

Google Certified educator course offered by Singapore American school for all the faculties and staff by IT department was one of the most enjoyable and learning experience I had at SAS this year. This course not only provided the opportunity to learn google and it's Applications in deep but trained all of us for google certification exam. Google Chrome, Web-store and Extensions, Docs, Drive, Gmail, Sheet, Calendar, YouTube, blogger, Forms, and Sites, and tips of using google were the highlights of this course.

Signing up as a user in Google chrome with our bookmarks and opening the incognito window when needed were easy and safe tools to learn for increasing productivity. Chrome, a fast and simple web browser provides the searching at the address bar makes the work relatively easier. Google tips and tools for smarter searching makes the search faster and valuable. Each session was interesting and required learners/educators collaboration and communication. Web-store and Extensions were new for me that I could add some of these fun tools to my toolbar after getting educated by the Tech professionals of SAS.

Drive, Docs, Sheet, and Gmail was not very new for everyone who is using Google on daily basis. However, there is a lot more than that we can do to make our everyday task easier and organized.
Color coding our emails, making labels, searching the emails and putting them in a folder in one hit, and organizing my drive files with stars were some of the many features that we learned in this session. Freezing the columns or rows in sheets, formatting cells, Math Functions, charts were some that I can remember at this moment were the hit.

In Google Calendar, inviting people, adding attachments, booking a room and figuring out colleagues availability was interesting and new learning for me. This is so surprising that google could create Google :) something that is packed up with many handy tools.

YouTube was always being an entertaining site to watch videos. The course was helpful in teaching me how to use the filters to find the right video in no time. Creating our own play lists, collecting interesting video and sharing them by a variety of means was definitely exciting. Finding songs and the audio in YouTube Audio library and using them with your photos to create videos was a hit. That is one of the great use of YouTube video's for teachers to create video's using Capture App. I am happy that I could attend these sessions.

Google form is a very effective addition for teachers and educators to create a quiz with multiple choice question, short answer, questions based on a video clip or an image. It's very easy to share a quiz with a group of students or selected students. Changing color and setting on Google form based on our requirement sets up the theme. We can collect students responses in a sheet for easy reviewing. Google forms can be useful for unit assessments, feed backs by students or parents, surveys, daily exit slips after the lesson. Wonderful and handy tool for teachers to collect response from the class.

Created Google Form during class and collected Response.
